A word of caution about transplants.

June 24th, 2009

Transplants are permanent. Final. No reversing what takes place.

A word of warning.

Do you know if you have enough hair to donate to the area that needs to be replaced?

Do the math: If you lost half your hair, do you have enough to donate to the area that needs it?

What look are you trying to achieve? Full head or a thinning look.

What can you expect to look like after the transplants have grown in?

Ask the tough questions.

Losing your hair: a side effect of chemotherapy

June 24th, 2009

I thought I was prepared. My chemo nurse gave me a sheet with a list of side effects for the drug being administered A/C. She told me on the 14th day I would lose my hair. On the 12th day I noticed my hair on my pillow, in my brush and in my hat. But it was the 14th day that it all happened. I was in the shower shampooing my hair that it came out in my hands. As I rinsed, my hair came off my head and filled the drain creating a pool in my bath tub. I was nervous. As I pulled the shower curtain to the side, I could barely see my reflection, the mirror was fogged up. I dried myself off and went into the bedroom to see through the dresser mirror. There I was…a chemo patient. I had 1/4 of my hair. Looking back I wish I had shaved my head.  I was holding onto what hair I had left, but for my mother it was difficult for her to see her daughter that way.

Nothing prepares you for hair loss. It maybe temporary, or it may be progressing to permanent. But that gnawing feeling in the pit of your stomach does not go away.

You can rationalize it-but really hair makes you look your best.

For 13 years, I gave people their hair back. But in 2006, the tables were turned. When I lost my hair, a friend said it is only until you finish chemo. I felt a dagger go through me. That did not make me feel better.  You know what did, my wig!

I loved my wig!  It was cute & sassy. I had a beautiful copper wig. Short and textured. Pixie style. I looked great.

Are you losing your hair?

June 24th, 2009

I get telephone calls asking me what a person should do to stop their hair from falling.

Is the amount of hair falling more than usual? You can lose between 50-100 hairs a day.

Have you seen your doctor?

When was your last physical examination?

Did you have blood work completed?  Your doctor can check to see if there is an underlying condition behind your hair loss. These are your next steps.

Once you have ruled out any health issues, the rest is up to you.

A hair system is the only thing that will give you back the hair that you had.

Are you wearing hair?

December 3rd, 2008

Do you see people looking up at your hair and giving you a double take?

Is the color of your hair system not matching your own hair color?

Is your own hair too long and does not blend with the hair system?

If you answered Yes to any of those questions, you need a maintenance appointment.

More importantly, you need new hair.

Hair systems are meant to be natural…no one should be able to tell if you are wearing hair or not.

Sometimes we get used to seeing ourselves in a certain way and can not distinguish if it is natural or not.

Alexis Hair Experts can help you improve your hair appearance. We are current in hair fashion styles, and traditional when the client dictates.

When your hair looks good, you feel good!

Get on with it!

November 25th, 2008

Yes you can get all depressed that you are losing your hair. But what is that going to do about getting your hair back?

Search the web. This is a good first step. It gives you a chance to get the lingo on hair replacement options. Hair systems, wigs, toupees, hair transplants, hair restoration. Those are common terms that you will get used to reading about.

How do you decide what is good for you? Pictures usually speak for themselves. You either like what you see or not.

What do you do then?

Meet people who have a hair replacement. How do you do that?  When you see them, you won’t even know that they are wearing hair.

You visit a hair replacement company. This is where you see people who wear hair.

It also gives you a chance to hear how they feel about wearing hair.

I am behind the chair. I have seen the transformation.  Women & men who had low self esteem. They were not happy with the way their hair looked.

After their hair was styled and they saw how easy it was.

A small smile turns into a big smile.

A few people are so moved, they weep for joy. They feel good that they look good.

You have nothing to lose, but time. So get on with it!

Non-Surgical Systems

October 29th, 2008

Can you see or feel the Non-Surgical Single Strand Hair Insertion System?

Because the hair system is transparent it is not visible. When the hair is parted all you will see is skin. Similar to a contact lens your eye is what is seen, not the lens. If you run your fingers through, all you feel is hair.
    DOES IT LOOK NATURAL?
Yes they do. You can now look at the top of a persons head that is has a non-surgical system, and it looks like you are looking a full head of hair.
